The movie does not look bad, but it must be strange to have this Will Smith cloud hanging over it, especially for director Antoine Fuqua and Apple TV (who reportedly think the movie is really good and are just trying to rip the band-aid off by putting it out this year). If the movie does turn out to be great, will the actors nominate Smith in a very weak Best Actor field? Or will people not watch it because of the controversy surrounding its star still looming over the whole thing? We’re going to find out in December, when it comes out on Apple TV, which is fresh off its surprise Best Picture win last year with CODA.
