The Queen’s Gambit signals its strength as the limited series frontrunner
The Creative Arts Emmys are taking place this weekend, which is basically the non-televised (though it is streamed now) show where the Emmys have to give out the million or so technical awards they don’t have time to announce on the main telecast next weekend. There are so many they can’t even do it over one day, they have to split it in two. But you can occasionally see where the chips are falling, which this year seems to definitely be in The Queen’s Gambit’s direction, which beat a lot of drama series competitors for awards like production design, costumes, etc., taking home 7 statues already. I’d say this all but guarantees its triumph in limited series next week, but I still think Kate Winslet will take lead actress. Other series favorites The Crown and Ted Lasso both won two last night, including the important editing categories.
