The Guardians Say Farewell in Vol. 3 of James Gunn's Trilogy

The trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3 is out, and serves as James Gunn’s swan song to the MCU as he heads off for his new job running the DCU as they try once again to create a successful cinematic universe of their own. I was never a huge fan of this series to begin with, so call me unmoved by the sentimentality, and the rumors that key characters will be killed off in this one. Boo. Hoo.

Harrison Ford Cracks the Whip For the Last Time in 'Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny'

The Dial of Destiny? Really? That title is so dumb it almost distracted me from the rest of this trailer, which doesn’t look that bad actually. The de-aging is pretty good, though we really get just a three second shot of it. This film is going to be the first Indiana Jones film not directed Steven Spielberg (James Mangold is taking the helm), which is quite a change in itself. This is also John Williams’s last time out as well with the iconic score (thought he didn’t do the trailer version, which is yet another slow, piano played rendition of a famous movie theme, which is getting really annoying).

Mario, Luigi and Peach Have New Voices in 'Super Mario Bros. Movie'

And it’s very weird. Chris Pratt and Charlie Day (not attempting any kind of Italian accents obviously) as Mario and Luigi just seem…wrong, somehow. And also Anya-Taylor Joy as Princess Peach by the way. I miss the days when studios could hire genuine voice artists to play animated characters- surely if there’s any brand that can sell itself it’s Super Mario. This one is bound to be a smash no matter how bad it is.

More Debauchery in Hollywood in New Trailer for 'Babylon'

We get to see more of the actor’s performances in the new Babylon trailer, and rumors that it’s a three hour Fellini-esque party fest look evident in this. Is it me or can you literally not tell the difference between Samara Weaving and Margot Robbie in their scene together? There’s not much plot to speak of, apparently, jus the rise and fall of several characters who are used as stand-ins for 1920’s Hollywood stars (John Gilbert, Clara Bow, Anna May Wong, Ramon Navarro). I’m a sucker for anything exploring old Hollywood and it’s hard to believe this era was nearly a hundred years ago now. I’ll be seeing it for sure.

Paul Mescal Gets Critical Raves in 'Aftersun'

I’m posting the trailer for this tonight because I suspect this movie will be a big favorite when the Independent Spirit nominations are announced tomorrow. I only heard of it when it was released just a few weeks ago (it’d be nice if the good movies didn’t all come out at the same time of the year and wind up piled on top of each other). Paul Mescal, who made a big impression and got an Emmy nomination for one of my favorite shows of the last fews years, Normal People, is said to be amazing in this film and with the Best Actor field so weak this year, could be in the conversation for a surprise nomination, if critics come through for him.

Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson Duke it Out in 'The Banshees of Inisherin'

I never posted the trailer for this from a while back and after the movie was released in theaters just a couple weeks ago, I find out now it’ll be available on blu-ray just next month (see what I mean about adult audience films not being allowed a chance to have their day in theaters?) But this did get great reviews and is expected to be a possible heavy Oscar contender, with past honoree Martin McDonagh at the helm (let’s hope I like it better than his last film, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, which I kinda hated). This one may even land Colin Farrell his first ever Oscar nomination, after all these years.

New 'Emancipation' Trailer Promises Intense Experience

The movie does not look bad, but it must be strange to have this Will Smith cloud hanging over it, especially for director Antoine Fuqua and Apple TV (who reportedly think the movie is really good and are just trying to rip the band-aid off by putting it out this year). If the movie does turn out to be great, will the actors nominate Smith in a very weak Best Actor field? Or will people not watch it because of the controversy surrounding its star still looming over the whole thing? We’re going to find out in December, when it comes out on Apple TV, which is fresh off its surprise Best Picture win last year with CODA.
